Diagonal Thinking embraced by The Partnership
Diagonal thinking, a new tool that has been designed to aid recruitment of talent into the creative industries, has been adopted by The Partnership.
Tony Tostevin, Managing Director of the Partnership explained: “Diagonal Thinking is an assessment tool which has been designed to identify the top creative brains … linear and lateral thinkers. The assessment tool was created because the advertising and design industry believes that there is a clear need to measure applicants so we can identify those who think diagonally – thinkers who are highly creative and highly logical.
“The reason for this? So that we can recruit, and most importantly, retain the best talent that is out there in the marketplace for our clients.”
Diagonal thinking was developed in conjunction with over 100 advertising luminaries and is based on psychometric testing. It is the culmination of a five-year project for the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising by AgencyPeople, and was sponsored by Creative & Cultural Skills.
“Research indicates that around 10% of people are diagonal thinkers so it is important for us that these individuals are identified early on in our hiring process as high scores indicate potential high-achievers.
“The market is currently in a state of flux as individuals and companies struggle with the possible implications of a recession yet all the research confirms how important it is to continue advertising so that your company stays strong. By ensuring that the staff we hire are not only creative, but practical and logical, we can offer the best range of skills possible,” said Mr Tostevin.
Individuals interested in testing themselves can access the free online assessment on the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising’s PA website – www.ipa.co.uk and applicants for jobs in design, film, music, advertising fashion, architecture and other creative industries are urged to forward their results to prospective employers as evidence of their diagonal thinking.
